Xanthones have been the subject of intensive research for several decades, and they are most abundant in the pericarp (the ripened inside walls) of the mangosteen fruit. Research has found that xanthones are the most powerful antioxidants, even more powerful than those found in vitamins. There are over 40 different types of xanthones found in the mangosteen fruit. Professional journals such as Free Radical Research, Journal of Pharmacology, The Environmental Health Prospectus, The Journal of Phyto Chemistry, The Journal of Natural Products, and The European Journal of Pharmacology have articles showing research about the effects of xanthones on different health concerns such as cancer, strokes, heart disease, arthritis, inflammation, diabetes, chronic fatigue and others. There are approximately 40 different xanthones found in mangosteen, within the extracts of the pericarp. Laboratory tests show that these xanthones can stop certain bacteria and fungi from growing. The pericarp of the mangosteen has been used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of skin infections and wounds in South East Asia for many years. Vemma Nutrition is a great drink!
