Should you use punishment when house training a dog

When you’re house training a dog, it is quite understandable that you want to punish your dog when it makes a mistake indoors, but it is much better not to do this.

If you punish your dog after catching it red-handed, it could get the idea that it must not defecate in your sight. The result of this is that your dog finds ways to defecate and urinate at moments when you are not looking and in places where you are unlikely to see it.

These dogs will happily walk alongside you on the leash for an hour and when you get home they will find a quiet place behind the sofa or under the table. So using punishment when dog house training often has an adverse effect, both when catching the dog red-handed or afterward.
